COMMUNITY OF QEROS TREKKING TO THE LAST INCA AYLLU 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS

Description

The Qeros Nation considered by many historians to be the last Inka ayllu, since 1955, the date in which the historians Oscar Núñez del Prado, Efraín Marote, Mario Escobar, made the first visit to the Qeros Nation. The remote communities of the Qeros are located at 4,400 meters above sea level, in the snow-covered Cordillera Vilcanota, the highest mountain range in southeastern Peru. There are more than 2,000 people living in the nation’s fourteen towns, spread across many river valleys.

The Qeros are known as the guardians of the wisdom of the Andes. Considered the “Last Inca ayllu”, or the last Inca community of Peru, the Qeros strive to preserve and promote their indigenous cultural and ethnic identity.

The Nation of the Qeros has been designated as a “Living Cultural Heritage of the Nation” for the continuity of its ancient Andean traditions by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

The Qeros live a life of work and are one with nature: offerings are made to Pacha Mama (Mother Earth), and to the Apus, (Mountain Spirits) in exchange for the well-being of their animals, crops and themselves.

The worldview of Ayni’s world concept (reciprocity), the importance of reciprocal exchange, encouraged, the awareness of an animating essence in all things, shaping their interactions with others and with their environment.

Love, joy, perseverance, intrinsic integrity, and the ability to “just be” permeate your daily life with all the things that nature offers.

The Q’eros travel between three different ecosystems that range from 4,400 meters above sea level to 1,800 meters above sea level. or 6,000 feet above sea level: from the snow-capped peaks to the edge of the jungle.  They herd llamas and alpacas at the highest altitudes; go down to grow potatoes and raise sheep; descend even further to grow corn, pumpkin and other vegetables, to harvest bamboo and wood for their buildings and also to make their looms and flutes. Despite the harsh conditions to which they are exposed, and a history as objects of discrimination and marginalization, the Q’eros endure.
