Itinerary
We'll pick you up from the airport and/or bus terminal and transfer you to our office where you can leave any luggage you won't be taking on the tour. Then, we'll take you to the port (harbor captaincy), a 15-minute boat ride downstream on the Madre de Dios River in a motorized boat that will take us to our lodge. Afterward, we'll prepare to spend the night at Sandoval Lake, within the Tambopata Reserve, with the Mejía family at our lodge. From there, we'll travel by boat for 10 minutes to the shores of Sandoval Lake, where we'll enter the Tambopata Reserve "Sandoval Lake" with a 1-hour hike. Then, we'll reach the lake and take a rowboat ride to explore this beautiful lake teeming with a variety of birds and animals. Upon arrival at the family lodge, we'll settle into our rooms. At noon, we'll have lunch at Sandoval Lake, and afterward, those who wish can swim in the lake without any danger. Later, we'll return to our lodge, have dinner, and then embark on a night walk to see some nocturnal animals and/or insects. We'll spend the night at our comfortable lodge.
Early in the morning, we'll wake up and take the rowboat to paddle across Sandoval Lake to a place where it's possible to see a clay lick of palm trees, where hundreds of macaws come to eat the dry palm trees, which contain high mineral salt content necessary for their digestion. Then, we'll return to our family lodge for breakfast and proceed to take a hike through the Tambopata Reserve trails. After returning for lunch, we'll prepare to return to our lodge from our first night, "Amazon Lodge Tambopata". Our boat will be waiting to take us to Monkey Island and then back to the lodge. We'll settle into our lodge rooms, then take a night hike before returning to the lodge for dinner. We'll spend the night at our comfortable lodge.
Early in the morning at 5:00 am, we'll visit the parrot clay lick "la cachuela", on a 50-minute trip, where it's possible to see a variety of parrot species gathering on the wall of the Madre de Dios River to eat clay in a multicolored spectacle of flights and screams, an experience you will never forget. Afterward, we'll return to the lodge for breakfast. Following breakfast, we'll take our kayaks from our lodge, paddle down the Madre de Dios River, and arrive at the adventure activity center. We'll walk for 5 minutes and then ascend a 20-meter high tower, cross the hanging bridges, to see the jungle from the top of the trees, as animals do, before returning to the lodge. After lunch, we'll prepare for fishing on a half-hour hike to a small river, where it's possible to fish for piranhas and other Amazonian fish, then return to the lodge to pack up, transfer to Puerto Maldonado, and transport to the bus terminal or hotel.
