Colca Canyon Tour - 2 Days
Overview
In this 2 day tour we will visit the Colca Canyon, known for being one of the deepest canyons in the world. We will also have the privilege of observing one of the largest birds on the planet: The Condor, we can appreciate the majestic flight of the Condor in the viewpoint of the cross of the condor. In addition to all this we will enjoy a direct contact with nature. We will be accompanied by a specialized guide who will tell us about the history of the cultures that inhabited this area. We will enjoy a delicious lunch, with Andean dishes made with local products.
Itinerary
We'll start early with hotel pickups in downtown Arequipa between 7:30am and 8:00am. We'll head towards the picturesque village of Chivay, approximately a 4-hour journey with several exciting tourist stops. We'll spot vicuñas in Pampa Cañahuas, try the traditional coca tea in Patahuasi, and observe alpacas in the Bofedales de Toccra. Additionally, we'll marvel at the views from the Mirador de los Volcanes, the highest point on the road at 4800 meters above sea level. Once in Chivay around 12:30pm, you'll enjoy a delicious lunch on your own. The afternoon offers the option to relax in the thermal baths (admission not included) and enjoy a folkloric show during dinner (also on your own). We'll spend the night in Chivay.
After breakfast, we'll head to the Mirador de la Cruz del Cóndor, about 30 minutes away, to observe the majestic flight of the condors and the beauty of the Colca Canyon. On the way back, we'll make additional stops at viewpoints to appreciate the terraced fields of the Valley and visit the town of Maca, where you can explore its church and try local drinks like the Colca Sour. Around 12:00pm, we'll have lunch again in Chivay on your own before heading back to Arequipa around 1:00pm. If there were any places we couldn't visit on the first day, we'll have the opportunity to do so on the way back, depending on the weather and the group. We expect to arrive in Arequipa around 5:00pm, dropping travelers off near the main square.
