Itinerary
Our Amazonian journey begins with a pick-up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos. We'll start with a walking tour of the main sites in the city, including the Plaza de Armas, the Matriz Church, the Iron House, and some historical mansions from the rubber boom era. After the city tour, we'll board our motorboat and navigate for about 15 minutes on the Itaya River before entering the world's mightiest river, the Amazon. Along the way, we may have the chance to spot gray and pink dolphins. Upon arrival at Cumaceba Curaka Inn, you'll be greeted with a typical fruit drink. After settling into your room, we'll embark on a guided excursion to explore the rich biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon. We'll enjoy a typical lunch and have some free time for birdwatching and photography. In the evening, we'll return to the lodge for dinner before starting a night hike to observe insects, amphibians, and nocturnal birds.
Night at the lodge.
We'll start our second day early to either walk or take a boat ride (depending on the season) for birdwatching, as the morning is the best time to spot the majority of birds, including the Hoatzin, the only ruminate bird in the world. After returning to the lodge for breakfast, we'll visit a local family who raises various species of animals such as boas, anacondas, sloths, and turtles. During this excursion, we'll also visit a traditional sugarcane juice extraction factory, where we can participate and enjoy some drinks made from sugarcane juice. In the afternoon, we'll visit the "Gallito" village to learn about their way of life. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and we'll gather around a campfire to socialize and share Amazonian stories.
After breakfast at the lodge, we'll start our day with artisanal fishing along the Amazon River, where we may catch some piranhas, catfish, among others. We'll also have the opportunity to admire the Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant in the world, known for its leaves that can withstand a load of up to 4 kg. After lunch and some relaxation time in the hammock area or the lodge's pool, we'll explore the area before dusk, observing trees such as cedar, rubber, and the Lupuna.
Dinner and night at the lodge.
Enjoy a free morning to relax in the hammock area, soaking in the harmony of the Amazon. After a delicious lunch, we'll return to Iquitos, with a stopover to visit the Bora community, where we'll be welcomed to experience their culture and way of life. It's recommended to bring some items (not money) to exchange for their handmade crafts. Upon arrival in Iquitos, we'll drop you off at the airport or your hotel.
