Itinerary

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado's airport or terminal, you will be transferred to Chuncho Lodge's office. We recommend repacking large luggage before reaching Puerto Maldonado, bringing only essentials for your stay at our lodge. Our journey begins with a 48-kilometer drive on paved roads, followed by an 18-kilometer stretch on a dirt road through the jungle. This approximately 1.5 to 2-hour drive takes us to the Tambopata Riverbank, where we board our boat to reach our lodge. Upon arrival, you'll receive a warm welcome and room assignments. In the afternoon, we'll embark on an introductory walk through the tropical rainforest and visit a 40-meter tower. At night, there's an incredible opportunity to observe nocturnal animals such as night monkeys, frogs, tarantulas, and various beautiful insects during a night hike. Includes A.C.

Rise and shine early at 4:30 AM for a journey to the world's largest macaw clay lick, the CHUNCHO clay lick, approximately 1.5 hours by boat. Along the way, you may have the incredible opportunity to spot capybaras, the world's largest rodents, tapirs, and even the majestic jaguar, as many of our guests have witnessed and photographed. Upon arrival at the clay lick, witness hundreds of parrots and macaws of different species gathering to consume clay from the adjacent riverbank. Accommodated in our observation chairs, you'll witness one of the world's most spectacular natural bird shows. Following the parrots are the three most colorful macaw species in America, flocking together to eat clay essential for their daily diet and toxin elimination. On a good day, you may witness hundreds of these magnificent birds flying overhead, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Return to our lodge for breakfast, followed by relaxation in our hammock house. After lunch, enjoy an ethnobotanical hike through the jungle, where your guide will explain the benefits of medicinal plants, timber trees, and provide another opportunity to observe more wildlife such as monkeys and peccaries. The evening is free for rest or another night hike. Includes D.A.C.

After a hearty breakfast, our boat will take us back to Puerto Maldonado, retracing our route from the previous day. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we'll transfer to our office for the next excursion. LAKE SANDOVAL. At the office, we'll pack essentials before heading to Puerto Capitanía to board a boat, traveling along the beautiful Madre de Dios River to the entrance of Lake Sandoval, approximately a 40-minute ride. After disembarking, we'll walk a few minutes to the Lake Sandoval Control Post to register and present your entrance tickets, as this lake is located in the Tambopata National Reserve. Continuing our journey, we'll embark on a 3-km hike for approximately 45 minutes, where you'll have the opportunity to see a variety of flora and fauna, including birds, monkeys, reptiles, and amphibians. Upon reaching the lake's shores, we'll embark on a rowboat ride to explore the lake, searching for birds such as hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and the lake's main attraction, the playful Giant Otters. As the sun sets over the lake, we'll engage in caiman spotting, searching for these impressive reptiles with flashlights. Rest and overnight accommodation in basic lodgings on Lake Sandoval.

Our final day in the jungle begins with a beautiful sunrise over Lake Sandoval, followed by breakfast. After breakfast, we'll take a boat ride to the hiking area before returning to the river, where we'll board our boat and head back to the city in time for your return journey. End of our services.
